Las metamemorias de Alan García resumen la historia del siglo XX, y parte del XXI peruanos, en la experiencia personal de un hombre que dirigió en dos ocasiones el destino de un país y que, como tal, despertó los más profundos amores y los más encarnizados odios. Un hombre que conoció la gloria, pero también la amargura del descrédito. Este libro empezó a escribirse durante la estancia del expresidente García en la embajada de Uruguay en el Perú, y fue concluido a pocas horas de la fatal decisión que tomara el 17 de abril del 2019. Se trata del testimonio de un hombre excepcional que hace uso de los recursos de las mejores autobiografías, pero también es un ensayo de su particular visión del Perú, un país que amó y que sintió profundamente. Pero es, además, una gran y hermosa carta de despedida que logra sobradamente lo que la mejor literatura se propone: trascender la propia vida de quien la escribe.
